No, that is not valid. There must be an N9 segment between the TD5 and MSG
for it to be valid.

Was this a test PO or was it from a Trading Partner who has been set up for
some time?

Did your translator send back a 997 reject?

Well... if the MSG is buried in the N9 loop, the sequence is not valid
unless there is an N9 segment also included in the sequence. The first
segment of a loop is mandatory if any segments within the loop are used. So,
if Stephen is talking about the header (Table 1), no that is not valid. Also
note that there is a TD5 in position 390 as well as position 240 of the
header.

That said, there is a TD5 within the PO1 loop in position 250 of Table 2..
Following the TD5 in the same looping structure is an MSG segment in
position 289. Following the MSG there is a N1 loop in position 350, also
within the PO1 loop. So, TD5 - MSG - N1 is valid in Table 2 under these
circumstances. Another TD5 appears in position 430 in Table 2.

Which of course leaves a question that only Stephen can answer, where is the
TD5 - MSG - N1 appearing in the data stream. It would be helpful if Stephen
provided a complete ordered segment listing since the TD5 appears in so many
places in the 850 transaction set.

Thanks

Doug

according to the X12 spec, that's a valid document. the MSG is buried in the
N9 loop, but it sits

right between the TD5 and N1 in the header. i'd check your maps and see if
the mapper deleted
the unused segments (as they usually do) and now this is a used segment.
should be easy to repair the
map and put it back.

Subject: [EDI-L] Valid Sequence

Hello,

I have an EDI PO 850 sequence in this order:

...
TD5
MSG
N1
...

But I am receiving an out of sequence error.

On removing the MSG segment ( adjusting segment count etc.. ) the message
goes through.

Where in the segment order would a MSG segment usually be placed?

Thanks

Stephen
