I was unfortunatelly not able to respond to your blog post with a comment, 
therefore I paste the text here:

  As working for the vendor of choice, I have to agree that paying attention to 
the selection process is important. We do get so many surveys (especially when 
analysts are involved in (pre)selection) with questions totally out of context 
which are hard to understand and answer. And of course everybody understands 
them in a way that the answer is yes.

  It is often the case that the peers who run the selection are new to the 
topic and dont know about the services provided by the legacy solution, or the 
expected services from the new product. I really wish I could consuilt 
customers to better chose a solution (but I am not in a neutral position). It 
is painfull if you can throw away lots of consulting which was done pre-sales 
"just to architect a possible landscape" when after contracting the real 
requirements are presented...

  My recommendation is, try it yourself. Don't go for presentations and vendor 
lead PoCs.

Maybe some other vendors can chose similiar insight (if they actually dare to).
