Hello Bruce,

Thanks for the idea. Many years ago express editions either omitted x64 code 
generation or were for non-commercial use. It looks
like those problems are gone with Visual Studio 2013 express desktop edition. 
After a lengthy download (4.7GB ISO) I uninstalled the
full VS2013 and installed express. For EDK2 use, testing shows it is a drop in 
replacement for the full version. Help, About shows
that it is a 30-day trail. I doubt anything happens to the command line tools 
after 30 days. If it is a problem, a free indefinite
license is apparently available if you 'sign up' with Microsoft:

Thanks for pointing out the possibility of using VS2013 express for EDK2 build
