Set up an infinite linear detector along the x-axis. This detector can
detect the position of an incoming photon. Let an isotropic light source
be placed on the y axis a unit distance away from the detector such that
the probability that a photon will be detected at position x along the
detector is proportional to 1/r^2=1/(1+x^2) (inverse square law
detection). Then the distribution of detected events along the x-axis will
follow a Cauchy distribution.
