not so easy to answer

1. how many items are there? certainly ... i hope not only 1
2. i assume you will be SUMMING across items, correct?
3. what sort of power/beta do you want ... are willing to tolerate?
4. how large of a DIFFERENCE do you want to be able to find ... ?
5. what is the approximate size of a standard deviation on the scale?

all these things you have to know/have estimates for before you can answer
