Fred Brooks was project manager on a huge IBM operating-system
software effort, and wrote /The Mythical Man-Month/ so that others
might learn from his mistakes.
It's a while since I've read the book, but as I recall there wasn't
much about testing or quality assurance, and nothing about
"statistical" testing. I'm a software engineer by trade, but the
term mystifies me as much as it did you.
