There are probably a zillion ways (no wait, make that a zillion minus two ways) to do this weighting. One place to start is to do a search for EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average). So, yes there are formulas and references out there, but unless you can be MUCH more specific about the meaning and use of this weighting, I don't think anyone can help you. Probably you will have to design the weighting scheme yourself.
