Part 1 At least in past versions of STATA the audit trail was not as clear. It seemed more aimed at class type exercises with much less emphasis on all the messiness of real data. What you do in classwork is only the small end part to an analysis -- the actual stat procedures. It doesn't hurt to know another package as you have learned in your classes.
When doing actual research things that SPSS excels on such as, readability, the ability to go back and refine your analysis until it does what you want (and what you want evolves in a dissertation), ease of quality assurance review, documentation of what you did, metadata specification, etc. are very important. This is really where the time savings are. . . ================================================================= Instructions for joining and leaving this list, remarks about the problem of INAPPROPRIATE MESSAGES, and archives are available at: . http://jse.stat.ncsu.edu/ . =================================================================
