This discussion is probably getting fruitless, but I cannot reply
to this flamebait -- I would see things just from the other end:
"It's hard to imagine any reason for using Word/WordPerfect
nowadays, given the existence of LyX and other projects which
make writing LaTeX documents so simple." Couple of reasons for
me, why I use LaTeX is: structured authoring (i.e., I care about
content and computer deals with presentation), stability of
documents (I have no idea, how will I read in five years my
documents from 1997, which were written with WinWord 2),
portability (I am no using Linux mostly exclusively -- if I
switch to Windows or Mac, I wouldn't have to touch my documents,
because they would be as perfect there as they are here),
perfect math (of course), and last but certainly not least
BibTeX (how much is EndNote?).
