I've been asked to pass along the following information about a workshop to be held at the Joint Statistical Meetings in Toronto. (I'm sending this to both the old and new edstat lists -- sorry about the duplication.)

Computer Technology Workshop at the 2004 Joint Statistical Meetings in Toronto, ON.

CE_37T, 3:00-5:00 PM Wednesday, August 11.
"Interactive Demonstrations of Statistical Concepts Using JMP"

Abstract
This workshop is the second edition (revised and expanded) of the 2003 CTW by the same title. Statistical science is profound and often counter-intuitive. Rigorous mathematical presentations of these theories may be correct and complete but essential ideas may be lost on the students. The most important principles of the theory may not be conspicuous through traditional teaching materials. Computer technology can make theory more understandable and the lessons more compelling. In addition to simulation and statistical data visualization, computer animation and interactivity make the ideas come alive.
