I would like to check if you have made any progress on this? There should be no problem compiling AMBER with the current compilers.
As for opensolaris there are a couple of options. You can of course use the Sun Solaris10 release as a starting point, which is entirely stable. Or you can use SchilliX: http://schillix.berlios.de which is a very nice release based on opensolaris. This message posted from opensolaris.org
