Hi all,

After a (text-mode) dapper beta install:

1. I wanted the LTSP Server install so, without having read any other
information (at the time), went for the "Install a server" option on the
cdboot screen[1]. The wrong choice. I realise this is documented on
the wiki but I feel that others are sure to be caught out by this.
Better labels could be:
    1. Edubuntu Server Install
    2. Edubuntu Workstation Install
    3. Basic Server Install (s/Basic/Minimal/ ??)

2. It seems to me that all the information required for the post-install
step - https://wiki.edubuntu.org/LTSPServerSetup - is provided by the
existing install questions. So is it going to be integrated into the
install at some point?

3. ubuntu dapper's GDM login screen is different to edubuntu's. Not
just the logo - ubuntu's has Language/Session/Restart/ShutDown all in a
single Option menu at the bottom left).

I've also done an install using the Desktop CD:

4. The download page[2] should be clear about which configurations each
CD can install. The paras under the "Desktop CD" and "Text-mode install
CD" headings could be:

"The desktop CD allows you to try Edubuntu without changing your
computer at all, and at your option to install it permanently later (.
Edubuntu Workstation configuration). There are three images available,
each for a different type of computer:"

and

"The text-mode install CD allows you to install the Edubuntu Server,
Edubuntu Workstation or Basic Server configurations. It can also be used
as a package source for upgrading older installations. There are three
images available, each for a different type of computer:"

(again, (s/Basic/Minimal/ ??)
_

Is this the right place for this? These aren't really bugs so I've
stayed away from malone. However if that is the right way then I can
report over there. Please apply the cluebat gently.
_

Now, all those responsible for bringing Edubuntu to the world please
stretch your hands into the air, reach back and give yourselves a
well-deserved pat on the back. It's fantastic. I had a look at K12LTSP
a few years ago and things have really really come a long way.

For your consideration.

Cheers, Dave.
