Hi all, I think most of you are aware that there is a problem in the Feisty Desktop CD in that when a user installs Edubuntu from the Desktop CD the educational apps don't get installed. This is do to edubuntu-desktop no longer depending on this apps since we are using 2 CDs. This has caused quit a bit of confusing in #edubuntu as well as on Launchpad [0]. Oliver has indicated that we will be unable to fix this for Feisty.
So, what I'm suggesting is we make the instructions on the download pages [1-2] to clearly describe the situation and give a better recommendation to users. We currently have: Desktop CD - The Edubuntu Desktop CD allows you to try Edubuntu without changing your computer, and an option to install it permanently later. This type of CD is what most people will want to use. Classroom Server CD - The Edubuntu Classroom Server CD allows you to install Edubuntu permanently on a computer as either a Server or Workstation. It includes LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project) support, providing out-of-the-box thin client support. Classroom Server Add-on CD - Owing to the amount of great software included in Edubuntu, the distribution doesn't all fit on one CD. We've therefore created a separate Add-on CD, which makes the best out of your Edubuntu by offering additional educational software and further installable languages. It is easy to install the software from there once either a server or workstation has been installed. I'm suggesting we change the Desktop CD wording to something more like: Desktop CD - The Edubuntu Desktop CD allows you to try Edubuntu without changing your computer, and an option to install it permanently later. If you install Edubuntu using the Desktop CD you will find the educational software by using the Classroom Server Add-on CD below. The Desktop CD is often used for demonstrations of Edubuntu's great software.
