Perhaps there's something different in your situation, but if an ordinary user on my feisty system tries to reconfigure things via the network manager, they get prompted for a sudo password (which will only work for admins). I have a manual network/interfaces setup, but presumably so do you so I'm puzzled as to why this is an issue for you and not me? Any ideas? Have I missed something and in fact I really do need this?
