Seeing that my Feisty server is pretty much hosed (for no reason I can figure out), I thought it would be a good time to test out Hardy.
I am trying to install smbldap in Hardy. First I downloaded the smbldap installer and ran that. After doing so the server froze on boot up before getting to the gdm login screen. I found this thread which was helpful. https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/edubuntu-users/2007-November/002807.html I was able to make some manual changes that allowed me to get into the gui environment by using this howto from Jim Kronebusch. http://www.1-cs.com/gutsy_ubuntu_ldap_howto.txt I logged in with recovery mode and made the following changes. Edit /etc/ldap.conf and change the following lines like so: #host 127.0.0.1 uri ldap://ser.ver.ip.add/ rootbinddn cn=admin,dc=mydomain,dc=com bind_policy soft Now I can log in, but I am can't use the smbldap tool to add users or groups etc. I am not sure how much more of the howto I should try to do, for fear of messing up the smbldap installation. Jim's howto seems to address the ldap side only and not the smb side. After installing smbldap using the Matt's installer, what changes should I make? Should I just uninstall smbldap and follow Jim's how to? I am a bit confused how to proceed from here. Any help gladly accepted. Thanks. Krsnendu dasa
