Hello,

I like to first say that its good to have
diversity of opinion in the Open Source
community. Open Source has been exclusively
for (geeks and professionals) those people that
have bothered to overcome the steep learning curve.

We have come a long way from just a short few years ago,
but I have found one of the biggest problems int the Open Source
community has been the impatience we have with others trying to
learn Open Source tools.

I don't know how many forms I've read since the early 1990's
were people have been criticize harshly for asking obivious questions about Open Source tools.

First of all I don't see anything wrong with making money from Open Source
software/tools. The Open Source community needs to engage (educate) the youth.
And up until now I haven't seen anything out there that's comparable to theIngots.

theIngots gives the Open Source community a window to get to the young people and
show that Open Source software/tools are a strong and stable alternative to propritary software
(And it will eventually help bring down the prices of propritary software).

So, I think we need theIngots and any other legal way to get the attention of our young kids.
To spread the idea of Open Source is a good thing whether its commericial or not.

I am extremely concerned that there needs to be a strong distinction between a
private commercial venture such as theIngots and OpenOffice.org.

I know of the references to OpenOffice, but do you know of another Office suite that can handle all of the things required in the INGOTs program that promotes OpenSource.

theIngots, to me, does not follow the principles of openess that I would expect,
of such a project. theIngots is a private, commercial operation that is
copyrighting its material, and is there for private commercial gain.

Where did you get this information? I'm sorry, but I don't see the copyright information. Yes Ian promotes people to make money off of it, but what i've seen is most if not all of the money gained from the INGOTs program has gone straight to promoting OpenOffice or INGOTs. The whole plan behind the INGOTs program is to generate revenue to help develop OpenOffice. Is there another revenue stream to OpenOffice that you know of?

Secondly, I consider the quality of the theIngots material, at the moment, to be
of such a poor quality that it would reflect badly on the rest of the community.

INGOTs just started let it get going a year before you go with poor quality. Anyway this started in schools in the UK so it was made to fit them now it is just branching out.

Really I think your way off base and this is just my observations
using the program. Ian probably will answer your questions more
distinctly, but we value your opinion.
