Just a reminder for UK people that the FLOSSIE conference takes place next week.
BECTA recently brought out a report indicating that schools that had adopted Open Source software were saving between 20 and 50% of their overall operating costs with ICT. The FLOSSIE (Free/Libre Open Source Software in Education) conference taking place on the 14th and 15th of July at Bolton Technical Innovation Centre will provide a good introduction to what is the biggest technological change taking place globally at the present time. The conference is sponsored by IBM and will be attended by BECTA, Dr Brian Iddon MP of the parliamentary standing committee for science and technology and the Secretary of State for Education has expressed a wish to make a visit if she can fit it into other engagements. All the resources discussed at the conference are world leaders in their field and free and anyone attending will learn more about how to take advantage of these.
