This is a good resource. What would be nice would be a portable apps
version for USB flash RAM like http://portableapps.com/

I was at NAACE yesterday and one of the office staff asked me if I knew
of any free software for making pdf files. I used my USB with portable
apps to run OOo on her computer opened her Word document and exported to
pdf. She was still nervous about putting some "unknown" office suite on
her computer but I showed her the web site and how to get OOo so
hopefully she will get the courage to do it.

One of the most important open source apps for education is Moodle.
Putting Moodle courses or links on an education disc might also help
promote open source more widely.

The first lesson of the course starts here
http://moodle.theingots.org/mod/resource/view.php?inpopup=true&id=30

The course here is Creative Commons Share a like licensed and teaches
about open systems including open source, copyright and patents. It can
be used to support Gold INGOT certification or on its own. If anyone
wants to take it for the Open CD or any other purpose they are welcome
to. There are some specific bits about OOo but it covers things like how
to get and install Ubuntu and understanding why open systems are
important. Since the Gold INGOT is now accredited by QCA, students can
get points for learning about open source and get the supporting
learning materials freely (Hopefully they will participate in the
community and help us produce more).
