Yes, the appsembler fork does have this dependency.  At time of development 
we were looking for a very robust and complete solution for handling 
LMS<>SCORM package communication, handling edge cases, etc.  

Work has continued by Raccoon Gang on their version, which does not have 
the dependency.  I'm not current with the modifications they have made to 
it in the last 2 years or so, but it is worth a try and might be good for
