Hi there, We plan to deprecate and remove from edx-platform the external_auth Django app <https://github.com/edx/edx-platform/tree/master/openedx/core/djangoapps/external_auth> in favor of the third_party_auth Django app <https://github.com/edx/edx-platform/tree/master/common/djangoapps/third_party_auth> (an extension of python-social-auth <https://python-social-auth.readthedocs.io/en/latest/>). We are targeting removal by *2019-02-15*.
