I use this list of commands for hawthorn.2:

$cd apps/edx/edx-platform

$sudo rm -r theme_version1

$sudo git clone www.github.com/your_repository

$cd

$cd apps/edx/bin

$sudo edxapp-update-assets-lms

After that you need to restart apache with supervisorctl or ctlscript like
this:

$cd

$cd stack

$sudo ./ctlscript.sh restart apache

and you can see the changes.

For hawthorn.master the idea is similar. In your code I can't see where you
compile the theme.
