Hi Leo, I'm a former edX employee—I helped design and develop the E-Commerce Service—and current Stripe employee. Where is your company based? Stipe and other payment processors definitely allow non-U.S. entities to accept payments, but the offerings depend on where the entity is domiciled.
Nate mentioned Stripe Atlas which will create a U.S.-based company, but I completely understand your wanting to avoid that extra layer of work. I'm happy to chat more.
