This sounds like exactly the same thing as I was seeing on Songbird and 
others have seen in Firefox (6740339). If it is, you can work around the 
problem by setting

        option "AccelMethod" "XAA"

in the "Device" section in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.  I'd be interested 
to hear if this works - I haven't  tried Real 11 yet myself.
