In a prior email, a request was made for "a digest of the papers that he
[Andy Thompson] is reading" regarding best practices in admissions. I
followed up with Andy and learned that he was been involved in the
Unlearning Racism in the Geosciences (URGE) program
(https://urgeoscience.org/), which includes an extensive curriculum and
reading list (see the curriculum and resource tabs at the top of the main
page). Andy worked on Session 5: Racism and Accessibility in the Caltech
GPS Pod. If you have specific questions for him, please follow up with
him directly ([email protected]).
I, for one, hope that the literature on admissions / hiring best practices
has something useful to teach us and, if so, that we will be open enough
to learn and put those lessons to use.
