For the past week, I've been thinking a LOT about EFS meets OpenAFS (as traffic on this list obviously shows).
I am about to start working on extensions to efs_virtual_machine to automate building the OpenAFS cell infrastructure we will need, and we're not going to get very far if we don't tackle the persistent time issues we keep seeing on the VMs we run. This has been a chronic problem, but it's one we must get a handle on. The first thing we need is to add ntp configuration to the VM setup. My plan is to configure the coreserver as an ntpd server that syncs with an outside source, and have the rest of the VMs run ntpd syncing against the coreserver. However, my ntpd admin skills are pretty dated. I haven't set this up in over 15 years. Do any of you have less atrophied experience with ntpd? What I think I need are just two sample configs: one for the coreserver, and one for everyone else. If one of you can save me a morning of man page reading, and trial and error, I would appreciate it.
