Here's why Cloudscape is not functional enough for me..

>From the Cloudscape Web site, Cloudscape's JDBC driver does not support
transaction isolation levels other than serializable. When BEA WebLogic 4.x
tries to call setTransactionIsolation() on Cloudscape's JDBC driver, an
error message is returned. Several examples in my book do not use
serializable transactions, so this is not functional enough for me.

Cloudscape/BEA, please correct me if I'm wrong here or if there's a
workaround. I would love to support cloudscape in my book.

PS: In case you're curious, I cannot use Sun's 1.1.x JDBC-ODBC driver with
ODBC databases (such as MS Access), because Sun's JDBC-ODBC driver is buggy
and unsupported. Plus Microsoft does not keep their ODBC DLLs backwards
compatible. I would not recommend that anyone use JDBC-ODBC for real
deployments.

What functionality was it that cloudscape lacked? We're currently
evaluating pure java databases and cloudscape is our preferred choice so
far. It would be interesting to hear your "not functional enough"
arguments.

I'm looking forward to your book!
