I don't understand your reply. What has ID generation in EJBeans got to
do with this? As I said, the context here is quite different, so the
danger of getting two identical ID's is zero.

Absolutely. But IMHO the entire EJB spec has been built around the basic
concept of simplicity (it could have been *much* more complicated), and
it works quite well...
