why must it be an entity bean?
one possible solution is to use the iterator pattern with stateful session
beans. have a stateful session bean that keeps the stream open (e.g. to a
database blob) on the server side and a remote interface that gets you the
next n bytes on each call. if you like you can even hide that on the client
side behind a stream implementation that calls the session bean on each
read operation (of course, you should do some buffering there). it's the
only reasonably clean solution I know of.
