My preference for open source is a combination of things. Frankly, the
fact that it tends to be free is right up there. Secondly, open source
code that manages to reach some level of maturity typically has an excellent
support base, and bugs get fixed fast, unlike the sometimes-glacial pace
of the commercial products. And if I care enough, I can track down and
fix the bug myself, although it rarely comes to that. Did it on
Apache no more than 2 months ago, though...
