How does the OpenSource community benefit by having the OpenSource
software modified and enhanced by the community? (rhethoric)

Pretty much all of the contributors to our software are people who
*need* an application server to do their job. They are customers of
jBoss so to speak. We, as Telkel, are also customers to jBoss, since we
are going to use it to run our business. Also, I want to be very clear
on the fact that while Telkel is the main sponsor and administrator of
jBoss, we are not jBoss. jBoss is much bigger than that. jBoss is a
community of individuals and companies who have the same need: to have a
kickass application server.

The concept is simple:
Many people need an application server.
Many people then collaborate to create an application server.
Many people then use above application server.
Many people are happy.

It's that simple.

> OK they can
> look forward for financers after their product is successful. But till then
> how do they manage? Is it a dangling sword on their heads???

As any other company who are starting up. We have our own funds, and we
have venture capital. We are just another company in that sense. And
just as any other company we have a plan on how to make money (by making
customers happy, just as any other company), and a timeframe to break
even.

The difference between us and Any Other Company, is that we have the
best technology available, for a very affordable price, and a huge
community to make sure that it stays that way. Because it is in their
and our best interest. It is a win/win situation. We give to the
community, and we get from the community. Just as everybody else within
the community (and BTW, there are no restrictions on who are allowed in
the community. Any BEA and Inprise developers are welcome ;-).

It might be a strange concept for some people that you actually *gain*
by *giving*. But there you have it.

> Rickard spoke of some business plan. Would you please eloborate on it.

As for Telkels business plan, I can't reveal the details just yet,
although the core of it has already been said in prior postings.

regards,
