ONE is a new marketing wrapper for a collection of products almost all of which
were previously available. The industry media describes it as an attempt by Sun
to respond to Microsoft's DOT-NET marketing. The difference, not adequately
noted in the media, is that the core of DOT-NET is an entirely new,
theoretically platform-independent runtime environment and suite of development
tools that were released in beta versions subsequent to the DOT-NET marketing
