Their CMP is adequate. CMP was optional in the 1.0 spec. They just have a non
1.1-compliant CMP. It is true that their use of EJB is probably mostly for Resource
Management than for Persistence.
Yes, you can use MQSeries outside of Websphere. I am not saying that you can't
integrate to IBM products without using Websphere ... you can. However, you will
have to write such integrations yourself. IBM are providing lots of EJB-interfaces to
various services ( eg. their VoiceXML solution, which uses XML-cognizant EJB's to
interface to their 'DirectTalk' and telephony products.
In other words, IBM have a whole swag of components, that, if you wish to use, you
will need to deploy in an EJB 1.0 container and take the burden of supporting it upon
yourself.
Of all the vendors in the world, it seems that only IBM has taken seriously the idea
of component-based software. Unfortunately, they are behind the EJB spec a little.
I'm sure that they don't intend to remain there. Unfortunately, the scope of their
efforts means that their responsiveness to the spec's evolution is a little slow.
