Another approach would be to use field groups.  WebLogic 6 allows you to
define groups of fields that must be loaded together.  You would put your
big data field in one group and your other CMP fields in another.  As long
as you keep hitting those other fields, you media won't be fetched.

Also, note that loading is always lazy with EJB 2.0.

Yes, this is CMP.  But why bother when the computer can do it for you, mmmh?
