When I first logged on I noticed that a very high ranking member
of a Spanish Bank was havign a debate with somebody about putting servlets on
classpaths first.

Here is some information for that person and others I have come across on the lines
who I noticed haven't realised it :-

A servlet compiles into a class.
classes are identified by a unique name , and embody attributes and methods. Objects
have identity , state and behaviour.

* If you note that a class is identified by a unique name then doesn't matter where
you put it or where it is picked up.

The other point to note which I noticed and I will quote from
the first page , second paragraph.

 " Objects in software

The field of object orientation (or 'object technology' as it is often called) is a
large and growing one , and what it entails can to some extent depend on the context. "

I do believe this is the information the bank staff asked.
I should say Don of DB.com
