In the sort you need BMP when you are
using a none JDBC storage system. Our product supports
millions of users, with hundreds of millions of objects and no database in
site. It is built entirely on top of X.500 and LDAP based directories. No mapping tool in the world will allow be
to map between entity beans and ldap directories In addition directories do not support
transactions and as such this needs to be handled by the application server
internally. Remember not everyone works in the glory
world of JDBC ;-) keith -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am able
to write a hybrid entity bean which combines both cmp and bmp ie suppose 2
fields i want the container to manage the persistence and 1 field which is not
supported by my mapping tool has to be managed by the bean itself . I am able
to code this and it is successfully deployed in Jboss-3.0 and Weblogic
5.1 ( havent tried it with weblogic > 6.0) . I know its againist the
specification , but think of it , In all situations , i dont think there will a
possiblity of all the fields to be managed by the bean . So , why do
we need BMP at all , if this is possible . In the next specification ,Sun and
family should address this possibility . Are there any drawbacks for doing this
