You could try:

     mapQuery:findByPrimaryKey=where [key] = upper(@p0)

(This only works with Sybase EAServer and ASE. Syntax would be different for
Oracle DBMS. You can download eval version of ASE and full (non-time-limited)
developer version of EAServer at www.sybase.com).

Please excuse me promoting my company's own own products. But you didn't say
which products you are working with!

For portable results, have you considered writing:

     x = myHome.findByPrimaryKey(key.toUpperCase())

and in your ejbCreate, convert your primary key to uppercase before allowing
the CMP engine to create your data?
