What Application Server are you using? WebLogic allows you to make EJBs Read Only. This means that they keep an in memory copy of your database infotmation. The calls to the EJBs, dont go back to the database as it assumes that the EJBs already hold the correct values. Therefore they have already made the caching mechanisum for you.
(God I sound like a sales man!) How big is the record set you are cacheing? How long is it taking to load into your cache?
