Entity bean are something which actually makes sense when you are having transactions. During transaction they are really fast and use less resources as compared to an RDBMS counter part where every Transaction requires significant resource allocation etc. So for a programmer they are a programmatic load balancing mechanism between Application Server & RDBMS for Transactions.
