I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. I had to use wget for its
continue option and restart the hung downloads 4 or 5 times. This was
downloading from ekiga.org, when the internet connection at my office
was otherwise fine.
I was just too lazy to report it.

I don't think so. Other people would have reported it, and our downloads
count would drop to 0. I think the problem is on our side...

No, that is very weird. Try wget instead of Firefox maybe.
