Thanks for the reply. I tried various things in the preferences,
nothing worked. I had the same problem with Skype, I was not getting
out.
I decided to try the Ubuntu Netbook Remix-Jaunty Beta on the Mini. In
researching a sound problem that it had, I learned about how to access
the alsamixer through the terminal. I was able to fix the sound
problem, the speaker was turned off.
I reinstalled Hardy Heron (from Dell Linux Desktops).
I was able to get both Skype and Ekiga working by going to the
alsamixer in the terminal.
Type into the terminal: alsamixer -c0
The man pages give a good description of how to use it.
The mic boost control was turned off in my case. I set the volume to
the maximum green level without it going into the red.
That solved the problem.
The only issue that I have with it now is that the microphone still does
not work on wifi, but that isn't important to me right now. I will look
into fixing that later unless somebody knows a quick fix.
I hope this will help somebody else in the future as it helped me.
