Hi Check the sidetone. If it is gone also then the sidetone source is set wrong. The sidetone and data out are selected with this menu function and if they are set wrong neither will work. Go into the menu and select sidetone level adjust. Then tap the display button until U8-4 is displayed. Then you should hear the sidetone and the RS-232 should now work.
