I am using a 232USB9M-LS device from B&B Electronics <http://www.bb-elec.com/product_family.asp?FamilyId=397&Trail=45&TrailType=Main>. It is a locked serial number type device, which means that once set up it makes no difference what USB port you plug it into, it will ALWAYS be whatever port number you assigned to it. At $69 plus shipping it is more expensive, but it is nice to know that it work the same every time and not cause the frustration of trying to figure out what comm port was assigned every time you plug in.
