Bob,

Yes, there is an adjustment - there is a felt washer behind the knob, 
and a new felt washer may have "whiskers" that will produce a slight 
rubbing sound - that will go away as the felt washer "wears in".

Normally the knob adjustment will be correct if you loosen the 
setscrews, set the K3 on its "tail" and then drop the knob onto its 
shaft by its own weight and tightening the knob.  It that produces too 
much tension for you, then you are free to adjust it to your liking - 
the knob further away from the panel, the less the tension, it is just 
like the Yaesu adjustment and is covered in the manual on page 48.
