I went to the web site run by AA5AU and checked his RTTY page. All you ever wanted to know about RTTY, but were afraid to ask.
Now for the K3. I used MMTTY software, and use the serial cable for rig control and PTT. I had to tell MMTTY that I was using SOUND card for TX. Set the K3 mode to DATA, and the data mode to AFSK A and 45 baud.
