In case anyone else may have been encountering "BAT LOW" messages while
operating QRO, check your Power Pole connection to the 12V power supply. I
had been assuming that my problem was RFI and was busy cramming ferrites
onto all of the cables coming into the K3. When this failed, I unplugged
them one by one, and still the "BAT LOW" message would come up periodically.
With a bit of inspiration I decided to take the message more seriously -
sure enough I had forgotten to solder one of the Power Pole 12V connectors.
Problem solved.
