In addition to hardware solutions, I hope that any two (or more) hams living very close together are cooperative about (1) preventing damage to radios and (2) operating in such a manner as to reduce the chances of (1) from occurring. Cooperation and communication can do wonders for maintaining a good relationship and enjoyment of the hobby.
