That's because they spend the most money advertising to hams. It is NOT 
because they are the best (they are not even close).

If you want a good PTT desk mic, you should be looking in the realm of 
2-way radio and commercial sound (paging mics). Shure (based in 
Evanston, IL)  has been making a good variety of models of very good PTT 
desk mics for at least 80 years. Turner desk mics, long discontinued, 
were excellent, but are available on the used market. Astatic also made 
a lot of this sort of mic, the best known being the D104 and its many 
variants. Look for this stuff on the used market.
