This has been recently discussed, but I would like to see the ability to run external SDR sw with the K3. At present only the K3 firmware can be run and, as far as I know, that sw is under Elecraft proprietary control (and that may be a good thing right now).
The true promise of SDR is the ability for sw to be continually improved/modified (that exists now) and for secondary sources of operating sw (not possible). This is why I have invested in two LP-Pan (essentially two external SDR) is to run secondary sw (Linrad, Spectravue, Winrad, etc.). Running ext sw on the K3 is all wrapped into the issue of exporting IQ signals, externally. It is my hope that this will be available some day. Probably the evolution of the P3...Or a K4? 73, Ed - KL7UW ------------------------------ Message: 28 Date: Thu, 17 Mar 2011 18:37:17 -0700 (PDT) From: juergen <plebia...@yahoo.com> Subject: [Elecraft] [Elecraft_K3] KR3 SW Receiver. To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Message-ID: <577034.59689...@web46013.mail.sp1.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii I would like to see a true SDR receiver from Elecraft. Something like the QSR1 with a pre-selector and the facility to use it with a transmitter built in. Very few of the SDR's on the market are designed more for swl'ing rather than ham use. A Ham friendly SDR from Elecraft would get my vote. If it could be installed into the P3 box that would even be better. I find that I use my Perseus more than the P3, that will probably change when I can use an external monitor with the P3. 73 John 73, Ed - KL7UW, WD2XSH/45 ====================================== BP40IQ 500 KHz - 10-GHz www.kl7uw.com EME: 144-1.4kw, 432-100w, 1296-testing*, 3400-winter?
