I believe that both answers are "no" Bryce. 

The General Coverage option is a filter, but it's an antenna input band pass 
filter, not a crystal I.F. filter (a.k.a. "roofing" filter) that needs one of 
the slots.

My K3 was built at the factory so I'm not totally familiar with some of it.  I 
have two questions about the filters.  I have an FM filter that can be used to 
receive AM.  Can it be used to transmit AM?  I'm thinking no.  I also have the 
general coverage filter.  Does it take up one of the five filter slots in the
