No argument Ken! The AF-1 wasn't created as a K2-specific accessory, but as a useful little filter for any receiver (especially "lesser" receivers without the K2's filtering) or as an adjunct to simple homebrew receivers. I don't use the low pass capability with the K2 either.
My point was that it does provide a nice "audio peaking filter" (APF) that many people enjoy on the K3. And again you are right - I use the APF only for certain specific situations where the signal is down in the noise. I was pointing out that capability for anyone without a K3 who wanted that feature for their K2, K1 or even the KX1. 73, Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- Hi Ron, I did notice the peaking effect, but I didn't think the improvement was all that profound. Also, the effect of the low pass filter is barely noticeable on the K2. I sent an e-mail to tech support at Elecraft and was told to use it with a receiver with a wider audio bandwidth. I considered that a non-answer, but after thinking more I realized what they were saying was that the K2's audio was already pretty narrow so I shouldn't expect much. They hint at that in their description of the AF-1 on their website. I think the AF-1 would be much more effective overall when used with a "lesser" receiver. For my ear, the K2 doesn't seem to need the help. 73 - Ken --- On Tue, 3/29/11, Ron D'Eau Claire <r...@cobi.biz> wrote: > From: Ron D'Eau Claire <r...@cobi.biz> > FWIW, among other things it does an > excellent job of emulating the K3's > Audio Peaking Filter (APF).
